Excerpts from William Johannes Smit prison camp scrap-book

The following photographs are stills taken from the prison camp scrap-book of William Johannes Smit (Perhaps the founding father of a movement currently all the rage amongst housewives and book-club cliques) who was imprisoned from 1900-1902 on the island of Ceylon, during the Anglo-Boer War. Smit was a keen collector of the flora and fauna securing his finds to the page with pieces of coloured tape. We stumbled upon the book during a research session at the Talana Museum archives.
